Status: COMPLETE ✅
Priority: MEDIUM
Last updated: 2026-01-03 (v0.6.7.14+1 – CMW documentation added to package README, migrated from v0.6.6.14+1)

Version: v0.6.7.14+1

Feature Request: FR-027

Task ID

Format: E\{epic\}:S\{story\}:T\{task\} Value: E6:S07:T14

Scope

Add Changelog Management Workflow (CMW) to the workflow management package documentation to ensure CMW is properly documented and discoverable for projects adopting the workflow management framework.

Problem Statement:

  • CMW is fully implemented and operational (T11 COMPLETE)
  • CMW workflow, scripts, and documentation exist in the package
  • However, CMW is not documented in the package README (packages/frameworks/workflow mgt/README.md)
  • Package README lists RW, UKW, and Intake Workflow, but omits CMW
  • This reduces discoverability and creates incomplete package documentation

Solution:

  1. Update package README to include CMW in "What's Included" section
  2. Add CMW workflow definition to "Workflow Definitions" section
  3. Document CMW scripts and features
  4. Ensure package distribution includes CMW files
  5. Maintain consistency with other workflow documentation

Input

  • Feature Request: FR-027-add-cmw-to-workflow-management-package-documentation.md

    • Problem statement and proposed solution
    • Acceptance criteria
  • Package README: packages/frameworks/workflow mgt/README.md

    • Current documentation structure
    • Existing workflow documentation patterns
  • CMW Files:

    • Workflow definition: packages/frameworks/workflow mgt/workflows/changelog-management-workflow.yaml
    • Scripts: packages/frameworks/workflow mgt/scripts/changelog/
    • Documentation: packages/frameworks/workflow mgt/scripts/changelog/README.md
  • Reference:

    • Other workflow documentation (RW, UKW, Intake Workflow) for consistency

Deliverable

Updated Package Documentation:

  1. Package README Updates:

    • Add CMW to "What's Included" section
    • List CMW workflow definition in "Workflow Definitions" section
    • Document CMW scripts (add new section or add to existing section)
    • Reference CMW documentation: scripts/changelog/README.md
  2. CMW Documentation:

    • Describe CMW capabilities (validation, duplicate detection, archival)
    • Document CMW integration with RW Step 9.5
    • Document manual trigger ("CMW" command)
    • Document cron automation support
  3. Package Distribution Verification:

    • Verify CMW files are included in package builds
    • Ensure workflow definition, scripts, and documentation are packaged

Approach

Phase 1: Update Package README

  1. Add CMW to "What's Included" section:

    • List CMW alongside RW, UKW, Intake Workflow
    • Brief description of CMW purpose and capabilities
  2. Add CMW to "Workflow Definitions" section:

    • Add entry: workflows/changelog-management-workflow.yaml - YAML definition of the Changelog Management Workflow structure (CMW - changelog maintenance and archival)
    • Maintain consistency with other workflow entries
  3. Add CMW Scripts Documentation:

    • Option A: Add to existing "Validation Scripts" section (if appropriate)
    • Option B: Create new "Changelog Management Scripts" section
    • Document CMW scripts location and purpose
    • Reference scripts/changelog/README.md for detailed documentation

Phase 2: Document CMW Features

  1. Describe CMW Capabilities:

    • Automated changelog validation, duplicate detection, ordering fixes
    • Archival policy support (size-based, time-based, hybrid)
    • Integration with RW Step 9.5 (automatic trigger when threshold exceeded)
    • Manual trigger support ("CMW" command)
    • Cron automation support (weekly execution recommended)
  2. Note CMW Characteristics:

    • CMW is deterministic (script-based, no agent execution guide needed)
    • CMW script documentation: scripts/changelog/README.md

Phase 3: Verify Package Distribution

  1. Check Package Build Scripts:

    • Verify workflows/changelog-management-workflow.yaml is included
    • Verify scripts/changelog/*.py files are included
    • Verify scripts/changelog/README.md is included
    • Verify scripts/changelog/cron-cmw-example.sh is included (if applicable)
  2. Update Package Version:

    • Update package version if needed to reflect documentation update
    • Update CHANGELOG in package if applicable

Acceptance Criteria

  • CMW workflow definition listed in "Workflow Definitions" section ✅
  • CMW scripts documented in appropriate section ✅
  • CMW features and capabilities described (validation, archival, integration) ✅
  • CMW integration with RW Step 9.5 documented ✅
  • CMW manual trigger documented ("CMW" command) ✅
  • CMW cron automation documented ✅
  • CMW documentation consistent with other workflow documentation style ✅

Notes

Documentation Style:

  • Follow existing README structure and format
  • Maintain consistency with RW, UKW, and Intake Workflow documentation
  • Keep descriptions concise but informative
  • Link to detailed CMW documentation in scripts/changelog/README.md

Package Distribution:

  • CMW files should already be in the package (they exist in the source)
  • Task is primarily about documentation, not file inclusion
  • Verification step ensures package build process includes CMW files

Priority:

  • MEDIUM priority (CMW works without README update, but documentation improves discoverability)
  • Completes package documentation to accurately reflect all available workflows
