This document establishes the backward compatibility policy for AI Dev Kit frameworks. The policy defines clear requirements and guidelines for maintaining backward compatibility across framework versions, ensuring safe updates and migrations for consuming projects.

1. Backward Compatibility Guarantees

1.1 Compatibility by Version Type

PATCH Versions (x.y.Z):

  • Guarantee: Fully backward compatible
  • Changes Allowed: Bug fixes, corrections, clarifications
  • Breaking Changes: Not allowed
  • Update Policy: Automatic updates recommended

MINOR Versions (x.Y.z):

  • Guarantee: Backward compatible

Breaking Changes Do NOT Include:

  • Adding new optional files or directories

  • Adding new optional features

2.2 Breaking Change Requirements

When Making Breaking Changes:

  1. Version Bump: Must increment MAJOR version
